Kitchen Design Trends 2018
Kitchen design in 2018 is all about richer colours, customisation and convenience.
Black continues to be a key colour for kitchen cabinetry this year, in both vertical and horizontal surfaces. However, 2018 also sees hues of blue and green coming through to add some richer colour.
Kitchen cabinetry trends
Ocean toned hues feature prominently on cabinetry either making a dramatic statement on their own or beautifully supported by timber. Carcasses are also being used to make a statement – no longer just a standard white, designers are taking the opportunity to add more colour and interest by matching cabinetry colours or personalising the design with contrasting timber decors or a bolder palette.
This year, benchtops are slim line and clean cut. Think a neat 20mm thick benchtop with dominant shark nose profile (giving the appearance of the benchtop floating over the cabinets). Recessed benchtops are also featuring heavily in Europe and we are starting to see them influencing design in Australia too.
Open shelving and concealed appliances
While open shelving remains a dominant feature of the kitchens in 2018 everything else will be hidden behind cabinetry to give a seamless contemporary look. This includes fridges and other appliances both large and small.
BUT – if you don’t want to conceal your appliances you can add some colour to your freestanding ovens, range hoods and retro fridges. Sure, this is not for everyone but if you love a pop of colour, this is the best way to make a bold statement in 2018!
